A huge thank you to everyone who helped bring this film to life.
To my team who helped shape it from rough cut to final piece, thank you. You made something really special. @colourist_paul @davehackney @blakeyman_uk @boohewerdine @yvonnelyonmusic
And, of course, a massive thank you to all the brilliant children who feature in the film and to @wrighttheatrearts for making it all possible.
Now I’d love your help getting the film out into the world!

Another little chapter in the journey of making my documentary My Name in [Brackets].
The film follows singer-songwriter @BooHewerdine, exploring his life, music and the people and communities he’s connected with. I’m following Boo through that world, getting to know the people around him and seeing where his story takes us.
This time, Boo invited me to the Scottish Highlands, to Moniack Mhor, where I got to watch him work his lyrical and musical magic and find out why people travel, some as far as Chicago, to learn from him.
Eight hours of driving, a beautiful part of the world, and a chance to tick something off my bucket list…
Loch Ness.
If you’ve missed the previous BTS videos about My Name in [Brackets], they’re all on my feed, so have a look back and follow along as I keep working towards getting this film made.
And if you’ve been following already, thank you for supporting me and the film. It really does mean a lot.
This week I was at Moniack Mhor in the Scottish Highlands shooting another chapter of My Name In [Brackets], my feature documentary about Boo Hewerdine.
Alongside Yvonne Lyon, Boo was leading a group of musicians and writers through several days of writing, collaboration and creativity.
I’ve been following Boo around the UK for the past year, filming the people, places and stories that surround his music and his life.
As a shooting PD, these are the days that test you. Long shoots, lots happening at once and an endless stream of moments to choose from.
Moniack Mhor was an incredible place to film, and there’s plenty more to come from this shoot.
I’ll be posting some videos from the shoot over the next few days, so watch this space.
Thanks also to The Entertainment for stepping in as AC, and my lovely co-producer Jo Jo Rogers for supporting remotely from London. ... See MoreSee Less

About a year ago I decided it was time to finally upgrade to a garden studio. I’ve been working from home for 20 years, and it was always a little dream of mine.
It’s perfectly sized for me and my gorgeous companion Rolo, with space for a guest or two. This includes an assistant editor when my workload requires a helpful second set of hands.
I do lots of things in this little studio, wearing many hats. Including editing, producing, writing and all the jobs in between.
I’m always happy to welcome guests too. The coffee is always on! If anyone is looking for an editor, producer or filmmaker please get in touch.
FYI, all guests should expect cuddles from Rolo and the many little furry animals I share the garden with.
🎬 Six months ago, I joined the @wftv_uk Mentoring Scheme. This week it came to an end, and it’s genuinely been one of the best career decisions I’ve made. Getting outside my Yorkshire bubble and connecting with 52 brilliant women from across the nations and regions has been a real game changer.
At the launch we wrote a letter to ourselves with three goals. This week we opened it again to see how we’d done.
🎯 Pitch an original idea ✔️ My documentary My Name in [Brackets] made the final eight of the Aesthetica x Audible Listening Pitch from more than 700 entries worldwide.
🎯 Make another documentary ✔️ Officially in development.
🎯 Gain more Producer/Director TV experience ⏳ Still working on this one. The industry’s having a tough time at the moment, but I’m certainly not standing still. One of the highlights was sharing knowledge across the cohort. I even managed to sneak in a session on montage theory! I also learnt so much from an inspiring group of women.
On our final day we each wrote three words to describe one another. Reading words like powerhouse, determined and clever from people I admire was incredibly moving. They aren’t words I’d naturally choose for myself, but maybe I should.
A huge thank you to my mentor, Claire Richards, and to Helen Bullough, who looked after the Northern cohort with such warmth and care. I’ve come away with new confidence, new friendships and a brilliant network of women I’ll be cheering on for years to come. If you’re thinking of applying for the next WFTV mentoring scheme, I’d absolutely recommend it. Feel free to drop me a message if you’d like to know more.
Spent today at Mythos Manchester with @houseofdogstar @abc.buildings
Met some genuinely lovely people, listened to fascinating panel discussions, made new connections, and enjoyed some very tasty food.
I’ve come away feeling really positive about ‘My Name in [Brackets]’, my documentary film about @boohewerdine , thanks to some encouraging conversations and a few promising follow-ups to pursue next week.
Today we were out in Skipton filming vox pops for My Name in [Brackets], my documentary about @boohewerdine
Skipton is my hometown, so it felt like the perfect place to gather opinions and stories. Huge thanks to Claire, our Production Coordinator, for keeping all the paperwork and permissions under control, and to Brendan Nicholson, our brilliant Sound Mixer, who I was delighted to bump into during the shoot.
Thanks also to @soundbarskipton for allowing us to film with them today!
And also @cakeoleinsta for the delicious cakes.
I’ll be sharing more behind-the-scenes updates as the film progresses.
Finally ticked something off my bucket list today and visited Stonehenge.
As part of the visit, I learned more about its connection to the summer solstice and how the stones were positioned in relation to the rising and setting sun. It’s fascinating to think about how closely people once lived with the land, the seasons and the natural world.
It also links closely to themes I’m exploring in Witching Realms with @tarnandmoon, our #documentary. One of the things that interests me is how practical knowledge, folklore and traditions were passed through generations, often from mothers to daughters, and how much of that connection to the land has changed over time.
I’ve always loved history, and it’s even better being able to share that passion with my kids while exploring places I’ve wanted to visit for years.
I’ve spent the last few weeks deep in the newspaper archives researching singer-songwriter Boo Hewerdine for my new documentary My Name in [Brackets].
Over a 40-year career in music, there are a lot of stories to uncover…more than 3,000 archive hits so far. 🤯
Most people know Boo through Patience of Angels, Graceland and his work with Eddi Reader and The Bible, but digging through old interviews, reviews and local papers has revealed so much more about the man behind the music.
At one point I got completely distracted and started searching for myself instead… only to discover some very questionable old newspaper photos from when The King’s Trust (then The Prince’s Trust) helped me become a freelancer at 21. 😂
Not sure what’s more fascinating, Boo’s archive or my hair choices.
If you’d like to follow the journey of making this documentary, give me a like and a follow @yorkshireedit
Three days working behind the scenes at UKREiiF with a brilliant crew… @davehackney, @thedigitalcortex, @constructfilms.co.uk, and the wider team.
My role across the conference has been wrangling and managing media coming in from multiple cameras, including Blackmagics, Sonys, and DJI drones, while also turning around edits at speed for the main media team. Lots of backing up cards, organising footage, exporting key clips, and cutting highlight reels while the event is still happening.
A lot of the footage needs quick turnaround edits for speeches, fireside chats, panel discussions, and keynote moments featuring MPs, celebrities and industry leaders, so it’s been a real mix of technical organisation and creative editing under pressure.
With more than 16,000 delegates across the three days, there’s been a huge amount happening all at once, so keeping everything flowing smoothly behind the scenes has definitely been part of the challenge.
Exhausting but really interesting work, and always nice being part of a solid team on a large-scale production.
We’re in Pickering with @boohewerdine and @yvonnelyonmusic on their @thingsfoundinbooksuk tour.
I went with the aim of filming a small gig to show the other side of Boo’s world (when he’s not performing to 2000 people supporting Eddi Reader). It was lovely to catch up with Yvonne too. Boo and Yvonne composed the score for my last film ‘Joy O’ Dance’. So nice to have a catch up!
Something I hadn’t planned for on this shoot was being invited to Martin and Penny’s house for food. Their kindness and hospitality became one of the most memorable parts of the day and really showed me the sense of community that surrounds live music, which is something I’m trying to capture in this film.
Thanks also to the @pickeringbooktree for letting me film in such a wonderful space.
